Oaklands Park, SA – Gallery M has opened its doors to two compelling exhibitions, offering diverse artistic perspectives. "Beyond South Seas," by the USAP Collective, and "Closer to Home," by Callum Docherty, are running concurrently, inviting viewers to explore themes of identity, place, and connection.
"Beyond South Seas" offers a unique glimpse into the Filipino-Australian experience. USAP Collective was officially opened by Joon-Yee Kwok, OzAsia Festival artistic and executive producer. It was followed by an ethnic art dance performance showcasing Southern Philippine indigenous affinity with waters by exhibiting artist Claire Pasion . Alongside Pasion, the exhibition features powerful works by Althier Alianza, Gale Dy, Lourdes Blinco, Mark Dy, Peter Francisco, Shine Eisin Mausisa, Michelle Kenney, and Ana Koch ,who also generously supported the collective.

The artists explore themes of identity and nostalgia, juxtaposing South Australian and Philippine coastal landscapes through painting, photography, and mixed media, and highlighting the enduring connection to the ocean. The opening drew a significant and diverse crowd.
Meanwhile, co-exhibitor Callum Docherty's "Closer to Home" provides a poignant exploration of the artist’s intimate perspective, inviting visitors into his personal space. The work becomes an extension of his home, elsewhere.
Both exhibitions run until March 15th at Gallery M, located within the Marion Cultural Centre. This beautifully synergised dual showing, curated by Ann-Marie Green is a must-see for anyone interested in exploring the intersection of art, culture, and personal identity within South Australia's diverse community.
